A 12-year-old environmentalist from Lunenburg County is at it again.
This time Stella Bowles gave a group of home school students a behind the scenes look at the work she’s doing on the Lahave River.
She’s hoping to inspire other kids with her passion for science.
“I want to show them how I do my testing,” she says, “and hopefully that will inspire them to want to do something and make a chance.”
Bowles says she isn’t letting the recent agreement between the municipality and the province slow her down.
“Because it’s not done. The straight pipes aren’t gone, people are still flushing their toilets in the river. There’s still more to do.”
Bowles hopes to inspire the 10 or so students to find a project of their own.
She says kids can help spark big change if they’re brave enough to raise their voices.
Meanwhile, eleven-year-old Fauna Legault is getting the message loud and clear.
“I think that kids can do anything,” she says. “Especially since we don’t have the known rules of adults, we have bigger possibilities in our minds.”
Legault got the chance to collect a water sample from the Lahave to be tested for fecal bacteria.

Legault says she’s interested in finding a way to help her own community.
