It was one of the few years Bridgewater Police didn’t march in the town’s Remembrance Day ceremony. The police service had several members armed in uniform around Brookside Cemetery. It was meant to provide community safety and security given recent events in Canada. Chief John Collyer says risk management played a role. “If something bad happened, I would have a hard time looking at myself in the mirror if I didn’t have a plan put in place for all eventualities. Unfortunately, that’s the world we live in.” Collyer says people called to thank police for making them feel safe during the ceremony. He says they could provide more members at other events if circumstances called for it.
