South Shore seniors and others across the province are the victims of scammers trying to make some quick money!
Officials at the Maritime Better Business Bureau say they know of several seniors who’ve recently lost thousands of dollars.
They received a call from someone claiming to be a grand child who had an emergency and needed cash.
Peter Moorhouse of the BBB says often victims are caught by surprise and they panic.
“Instead of panicking, take a moment. Breathe! The next thing you should do is call a trusted family member of the police.”
This particular scam has been around in varying versions for years and is aimed at getting personal banking information.
Moorhouse says its almost impossible to trace because the perpetrators are likely elsewhere in the world using the net to go through a local phone number.
