A long time chief of the Bridgewater Police has passed away.
David McGinnis died Tuesday at South Shore Regional hospital.
He spent 44 years in law enforcement, retiring from the RCMP after a 25 year career.
McGinnis then served as Police Chief for the Town of Bridgewater for the next 19 years, becoming the first RCMP member to move to a municipal force in Nova Scotia.
Acting Bridgewater Police Chief Scott Feener remembers him fondly.
“I knew him very well. I’d worked with him for a number of years prior to his retirement. He’s always continued to stay close to the members of the Bridgewater Police Service and we were still friends right up until the day of his passing.”
McGinnis is survived by his wife Angela, their four children and ten grandchildren.
Visitation will be held at Sweeny’s Funeral Home in Bridgewater, Saturday from 2-4pm and from 7-9pm.
A service to celebrate McGinnis’ life will be held at Sweeny’s on Sunday beginning at 2:00pm.
