The leader of Nova Scotia’s Progressive Conservative Party is stepping down after seven years.
Jamie Baillie submitted his official notice this morning, saying it’s time for he and his family to write the next chapter in their lives.
Baillie says he will stay on as leader of the opposition until a replacement is selected, and he will remain MLA for Cumberland South.
“I’m going to continue to work towards the issues that I believe in, like mental health and a growing economy, wherever I go,” he said.
“But I just wanted to say thanks and let’s build that more prosperous future together.”
He says being PC leader has been a wonderful experience, as the party has made great strides.
Baillie says he is truly grateful for the thousands of people he met along the journey and the wonderful memories made.
PC Party President Tara Miller says the party owes a great deal of gratitude to Baillie for his many years of service.
Miller says the process to select a new leader will begin in the coming weeks.
