A south shore school that almost closed earlier this year has just won a national prize.
Petite Riviere Elementary was awarded $20,000 in technology from Staples Canada.
The community school was chosen over 800 others across the country.
Staples Bridgewater General Manager Jim Brown says from their recycling to their chicken coop, the school is becoming known for their initiatives.
“Everything that’s gone on the last little while, it shows just the strength and the passion the community has for the school and for each other.”

Principal Scott Rawding says it’s a testament to the Petite Riviere community.
“When you have community involvement in a positive way like this community is, you’re going to have great results like this. I’m very proud to be part of this community and the school.”

Rawding says they hope to use the award to install solar power and a webcam in their chicken coop.
They also want to acquire some tablets for project-based outside learning.
Amazing celebration today at Petite. Thank you to everyone for joining us. We are so grateful to @StaplesCanada & @EarthDayCanada for choosing Petite as one of the Contest Winners. #PowerEco @SouthShoreRCE @ckbwradio @LHNOWnews @cbccolleenjones @CTVAtlantic pic.twitter.com/3uDq4ZbpD3
