For the very first time in their short three year history, the Liverpool Regional High School Cheerleading Team has placed in the top three Provincially.

The team of 17 girls and 1 boy brought home the Bronze Medal this past weekend at the Provincial Championships in Cape Breton.

Coach Joanne Ozon describes the sense of pride and accomplishment following the competition.

"When they placed third, there was a lot of tears, there was a lot of joy, there was a lot of excitement and they were so proud of themselves for what they have accomplished; they've come so far compared to the first competition this season, it was just absolutely amazing." says Ozon.

Ozon says it wasn't easy to get as far as they did in such a short amount time; she points to the dedication of the team and the training involved in becoming the best they can be.

"There is a lot of hard work involved," notes Ozon. " It requires, each year, training from ground level, working our way up from level one to level two, teaching them the basic stunts and then maxing it out at the end of the season."

The typical cheerleading season runs for only three months, however, all members of the team go through 6 months of training.
