An essential piece of equipment at the Mariners Centre in Yarmouth needs to be replaced.
One of two Zamboni’s, which cleans and smoothes the ice surfaces at the two rinks is starting to rack up some repairs bills.
The machine is wearing down.
Mariners Centre general manager Gil Dares says the Zamboni is almost 10 years old.
“What happens is we end up with a lot of break downs. We experienced that this past year when the motor broke down and we had to send it away to have it rebuilt.”
The Mariners Centre are asking the three councils to share the cost of replacing the machine.
The total cost for a new Zamboni is $121,475 which doesn’t include HST but factors in the $10,000 trade-in value for the current machine.
Dares made a presentation last night to the Municipality of Argyle’s Committee of the Whole meeting.
