Federal Health Minister Ginette Petitpas Taylor is taking steps to protect Canadians, particularly youth, from the risks of single serve highly sweetened alcoholic beverages.
I am concerned by the increasing prevalence of single-serve, highly sweetened, high-alcohol beverages. Designed to appeal to youth, these promote over-consumption of alcohol. (1/4)

Health Canada will introduce a proposal to restrict the amount of alcohol in each drink – which is currently between 7% and 10%.
The proposal would limit the size of the container or the alcohol content, and would affect all such beverages sold in non-resealable containers that are over a certain sweetness threshold.
The second step is a meeting with stakeholders over the coming weeks to discuss collective measures to protect all Canadians.
The news release made it clear these measures were not designed to impact liqueurs, dessert wines, and other sweet alcoholic drinks sold in resealable containers.
