The Town of Lunenburg continues to rack up awards.
They’ve just won the Americas Cultural Destination of the Year according to Luxury Travel Guide.
The guide is based in the UK and distributed to affluent travellers across Europe.
Kathleen Quinlan with the Lunenburg Board of Trade says she was surprised when she heard they’d won.
“That day I had said, we’re never going to win that award. The competition is so insane, we’re excited about the short list. And that was the day we got the e-mail and the telegram and the whole kit and caboodle that we had won it.”
Quinlan said it was the town’s authenticity that swayed the voting.
“The whole town is like a resort and we don’t have to manufacture anything. When you walk the streets here, you are living the culture now, here, in Lunenburg.”
Earlier this year, Lunenburg placed third on a list of top ten destinations in Canada according to USA Today.
Quinlan says this award will let more people know what the town has to offer and remind previous visitors why they should come back.
