The Municipality of the District of Chester is throwing its support behind a community park.
Members of the Together We Can Committee presented their plan to convert the former Gold River Western Shore school site to council yesterday.
Committee Chair Gina Green is pleased but not surprised by council’s decision.
“They’ve always been in agreement that the property was going to remain as use for the community. They really just needed to see that an organization and a group of people were going to take it and run with it.”
She says the former Gold River Western School has deep roots in the area.
“There’s such a huge connection to that school. It goes back to my parents and my brothers and my sisters and my kids. You know, everybody has some connection to that school”
The existing playground equipment will be integrated into the park along with community gardens, benches and walking paths.
A partnership with Bluenose Coastal Action Foundation will help remove the asphalt.
Green expects final plans for the park will be developed over the next few months and hopes to see it complete by next summer.
