*This story previously indicated workers were owed pay for their past two weeks work. Upon clarification they have received their last two weeks pay but some employees are owed for unscheduled deliveries.
Leon’s Furniture has closed its Bridgewater location, throwing nine employees out of work.
A sign posted on the doors this morning directs customers with outstanding orders to call Leon’s Dartmouth location.
The outlet in Coldbrook is also closed.
Both businesses were owned by Colin Lewis and John Coady.
Sales Associate Matt Blencowe says he called his co-workers after finding out at 10:30 last night they wouldn’t be going in to work this morning.
“Everybody, yeah, I reached out to everybody. I actually went into the store last night and gathered all their personal belongings for them.
Blencowe says some employees are still owed wages for some unscheduled deliveries, but aside from that, they have been paid in full.*
A spokesperson for Leon’s Head Office says the stores were independently owned and couldn’t comment on why they closed.
She says the corporate store in Dartmouth will be contacting customers directly.
