The Executive Director of the local tourism association is reiterating the idea of getting out for staycations this summer.
Neil McKenzie of the Yarmouth and Acadian Shores Tourism Association says the idea is to start with people visiting spots in their own backyards, and then branching out to nearby communities.
“There are things here that many people in Nova Scotia may have never experienced,” he explained. “Many people in Nova Scotia may have never experienced the Tusket Islands and the magicalness that that destination offers, or the Acadian culture in our area.”
McKenzie notes that the demand for travel is significant now that the pandemic has eased slightly.
He notes that as the COVID-19 pandemic grew, the association had to make adjustments to their marketing strategy, pivoting from targeting potential travelers from the New England States and the U.S. to focusing on Nova Scotians.
He says despite physical distancing and health measures still in effect, staycations represent a great opportunity to salvage the tourism season.
